The loud roar of a tractor in the lane, and then an
incessant tooting of a horn abruptly cut her daydreams short. She jumped up and
looked over the garden fence to the road below. There was the huge red machine,
inches behind her fiesta, inside sat a large dark haired man scowling in the
cab. She opened the gate and ran down the path, smiling she started to make
apologetic noises that dried in her throat as he jumped out of the cab and
roared at her. “What the fuck do you think you are doing parking in the middle
of the lane?”
If he had not put her back up with his foul mouthed tirade,
she may have had time to notice how his lean muscular body was bursting from
the open shirt roughly tucked into fading jeans that covered strong, long legs.
She would have admired his square jaw and high cheekbones covered by skin
tanned from years working outside, or the way he tossed his unruly dark hair
away from his deep blue eyes with a flick of his head.
But no, all she could see was some uncouth local, bad
mouthing her because she had the audacity to park her car outside her cottage.
She glared back at him and replied with ice cool politeness.
“This is a private lane and I have every right to park my car outside my
property”. There that told him.
He walked towards her, his six foot two frame towering over
her and continued to glare. “If you had bothered to read your property
documents thoroughly, you would have seen that my farm has a right of way down
this lane to the field at the end, so you will have to park your car on the
grass verge”.
She glared back, her temper rising, “Well, if you had
knocked on my door and asked politely I might have been of a mind to move it,
but as you don’t appear to have a polite bone in your body you can whistle
pal”. And with that she turned on her heel and marched back up the path to her
cottage, slamming the gate shut she shot inside before he could reply.
Liam jumped down from his tractor and strode across the yard
towards the farmhouse, his mind was in turmoil and he took no notice of his
labs bouncing around to welcome him back. He went straight to the fridge,
grabbed a bottle of bud, twisted off the top and took a long swig, letting the
ice cold beer slide down his throat. He walked through to the living room and
slumped down into his favourite old armchair.
What the hell was going on? He couldn’t understand how this
girl had got under his skin so quickly. But he could still feel the pain as his
insides had twisted, at the sight of her locked in the arms of Rory down on the
beach. He ran one hand through his unruly hair as he tried to make sense of
what had happened.
He closed his eyes and let out a long breath, remembering
the vow he made as he stood beside the graves of his family. He was determined
to keep the farm going and continue the good work his father and brother had
started. There was no way he would ever open himself up to having anyone else
grow so close to him, only to lose them. He knew he would not be able to bear
what was left of his heart being torn apart. But as he sat there, he couldn’t
stop the images of Beth on the beach, her shrieks of laughter as she was pushed
into the water and oh the sight of her in that wet top.
He felt his jeans tighten as his body responded to the
images and he groaned in frustration. Maybe celibacy wasn’t the way to go,
perhaps all he needed was a night of meaningless sex to lighten his mood and
get her out of his brain.
Liam woke the next morning with Beth still fast asleep on
top of him. To his dismay he was sporting a major hard on and cursed his
anatomy under his breath. He tried to shift position to ease the tightness of
his jeans, but Beth squirmed on top of him, which just made matters worse.
“Shit!” He muttered as he took as sharp intake of breath.
He attempted to take his mind off the beautiful redhead
draped over him, by going over what jobs he needed to get done that day….speak
to Joe about the top field, call the farm supplies to order fertiliser….. Beth
sighed in her sleep and her warm breath tickled his neck. Nope that wasn’t going
to work.
He cringed at the thought of Beths reaction to waking up on
top of him in his present condition, so tried counting in his head.
Beth groaned as she started to wake up, she didn’t remember
her mattress being this uncomfortable, perhaps her duvet had got caught
underneath her. She pushed up with her hands and wiggled her hips trying to
dislodge the lump, and was startled by a small yelp by her ear. She opened one
eye and found herself staring into those deep blue eyes of….. “Liam?” She
gasped trying to push herself up further.
“Don’t move!” Growled Liam.
“Wh.. what? Why?” She asked opening both eyes.
As she focussed on Liam’s face she noticed that he seemed to
be in pain, his face was contorted and his cheeks flushed.
He watched as she stared at him in confusion, and saw the
flush creep up her cheeks as realisation dawned and leapt off him.
Groaning in pain he grabbed her hand before she could storm
off. “Hey! Don’t get the wrong idea. I woke up like this, it doesn’t mean
anything.”
She glared at him whilst trying to pull her hand out of his
strong grip.
“Well that’s reassuring.” She snapped.
He took in her indignant scowl and made what could be a rash
decision, but hey, he was damned whatever he did or said. Using his superior
strength, he pulled her back on top of him a locked his lips on hers.
Can you provide us with a short history/bio on each of the
main characters?
Liam Trevose 26 - Youngest son of Mary and Ryan Trevose. He
grew up on the family farm in a small village in Cornwall, he studied
architecture at the University of Exeter and spent his summers surfing in
Newquay. He planned to take a year off after University touring surfing beaches
around the world, before looking for a job. His older brother Rhys worked with
his father on their farm, and would soon take over the day to day running with
his soon to be wife Rowena.
Four years prior to the start of the story, his family along
with his brothers fiancee were killed in a car crash.
From the day he buried his family, Liam shut away his heart
and his dreams. Wracked with guilt for not being with his family on that
fateful day, he swore to keep the family farm going.
Beth Hathaway 24 - Only daughter of Nick and Arabella
Hathaway. Having to watch her mother’s breakdown and eventual suicide, after
her father walked out on what was supposed to be a perfect marriage, she had no
time for love and relationships. Passed from one relative to another from the
age of fourteen, she worked her way through college, pursuing her dream of
being a freelance artist. She was tough and independent, even her closest
friend Trish had no idea about her past.
She had fun with guys, but would never open her heart to
them. So when a guy she was seeing started getting serious she decided to get
out of London and away from him.
She found a little cottage in a quiet Cornish village and
thought it would be the ideal place to chill out and carry on her freelance
work.
About The Author
My Review 5 Star
First I just wanted to say that this is the first book that I read from
this author, and I felt in love with it, I couldn’t put the book down and I couldn’t
stop giggling , I really had fun reading this book and I really enjoy it this book just made me want to read more couldn’t
get enough.
I love the characters of this story and love it how each character have
their own unique way.
I love the main characters Beth and Liam I love how they had the chemistry
from the starts, and love it how they get alone with each other, and how they
both trust one another.
love how Beth and Liam met each other for the first time, I have to say I
really was laughing while reading this part, Beth had just finish moving in to
the cottage that she is renting, and she
is unpacking her boxes when she hear a
tractor pulling up behind her car, that’s when she get to see Liam, now Liam is
not really happy and he ends up telling Beth to move her car and not to block
the rode, he said it with such an attitude and that just got Beth angry, Beth turned
around and gave Liam a peace of her mind and let him with his mouth hanging
open, I just love it when they both go at it and argue back and forth, but that’s
how it is I love how they end up falling in love with each other.
I love the character of Beth, she is always running away from love, and
form life and relationship. She had a bad experience when she was just fourteen
years old, and that made her be the way she is now, even though she's being
through so much she always with a smile on her face and love hear attitude.
Love the character of Liam now what cant I say about him. Liam was always
young and free and always being single. Liam also being through so much after a
horrible tragic he change a lot that the only thing that he is caring for is
trying to keep the family farm going. Love his attitude the one that he always
walking straight up and not give a crap of what other thinks of Liam is such a
sweetheart.
I want to thank author Emmie Lou Kates for introducing me to this amazing characters
and this awesome book, can’t wait to read more of your books and I hope that
you get to enjoy and love this story as much as I did.
